Founded by Daisuke Takei in 2015, prasthana is a Japanese fashion label whose identity is inseparable from its creator’s dual existence as both designer and Buddhist monk. The name itself, “prasthana,” is drawn from Sanskrit, meaning “departure” or “journey,” a fitting reflection of Takei’s meditative approach to creation, where each garment becomes an exploration of balance, restraint, and spiritual motion. Rooted in the philosophy of “form, function & idea,” prasthana bridges the rational clarity of Bauhaus modernism with the emotive, illogical essence of artistic impulse.

The Fall/Winter 2025 collection continues this disciplined yet intuitive dialogue. Anchored in four central tenets: Japanese clothing, Tech, Artisanal, and Bauhaus, the collection refines and reinterprets the brand’s evolving aesthetic. Takei revisits traditional silhouettes like the hakama, translating them into contemporary forms that merge history with futurism. The long-length jacket and hakama balloon pants set encapsulate this duality. High-density wool gabardine and pigment-dyed nylon oxford are juxtaposed to achieve both structure and movement, while split raglan sleeves sculpt a sharp silhouette without restricting motion.

Outerwear remains the backbone of the season, where utilitarian precision meets artisanal care. The standout padded blouson, crafted from “Epic”, a Nextec-developed fabric used by the U.S. military, illustrates Takei’s fascination with function elevated to the level of poetry. Each detail, from hand-brushed fleece coatings to brass buttons individually carved by hand, resists industrial repetition. In prasthana’s world, clothing is not only worn but experienced, an introspective journey through material, craft, and the quiet tension between form and transcendence.
