London-based concept store Voyeur Voyeur and design studio Paulin, Paulin, Paulin introduce a special edition of Pierre Paulin’s “Tongue Chair”, produced exclusively for the store.
The project emerges at a pivotal moment for Paulin, Paulin, Paulin, following the announcement of the re-edition of several of Pierre Paulin’s most iconic designs, including the “Tongue Chair” (1967). One of the designer’s most celebrated works, the chair is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Originally conceived for wider distribution, these pieces are now reintroduced with broader accessibility, marking a new chapter in the transmission of Paulin’s work.
This special edition also originates from Voyeur Voyeur founder Kat Qiu’s participation in the first Paulin, Paulin, Paulin campaign, Industrial Icon | Pierre Paulin, photographed by Thibaut Grevet. Extending this initial dialogue, the collaboration continues through both the creation of this exclusive piece and a photographic series featuring Qiu in interaction with the “Tongue Chair”.
For Voyeur Voyeur, Paulin, Paulin, Paulin has developed a special edition upholstered in Toray’s Ultrasuede fabric in U2828L Burgundy, establishing a direct connection between the chair and the store’s architecture. The material is already embedded in Voyeur Voyeur’s identity, used in changing rooms and staff uniforms, forming part of its visual language. Upholstering the Tongue Chair in Ultrasuede translates the store’s spatial identity into a collectible design object, creating a dialogue between furniture, fashion, and space.

At first glance, the worlds of Pierre Paulin and Voyeur Voyeur may appear opposed, yet the project finds coherence within this contrast, demonstrating the ability of Paulin’s work to exist across contexts and generations.
Originally conceived as a widely distributed design, the “Tongue Chair” represents the culmination of Paulin’s research into tubular metal frames, molded foam, and stretch textiles. Its low, wave-like silhouette reflects his approach to design: solving functional problems through new materials while producing forms that feel both futuristic and playful.
With this new phase, Paulin, Paulin, Paulin embraces its role as editor, opening new possibilities for the work without predefined limits in color or interpretation. These re-editions expand upon earlier “utopic” pieces such as “Dune”, “Déclive”, and “Tapis Siège”, originally conceived within Paulin’s vision for modular furniture but never produced during his lifetime.
The special edition created for Voyeur Voyeur extends and concludes this first chapter of reintroducing Pierre Paulin’s designs. To mark the occasion, Voyeur Voyeur and Paulin, Paulin, Paulin will host an in-store presentation on March 19th, positioning the Tongue Chair as both a functional seat and a sculptural presence within the space.
